Fluorescent transition metal complexes – such as those with Ir, Rh and Ru – are of great interest due to their use in televisions (Organic Light Emitting Devices, OLEDs). Phenyl-pyridine ligands have been utilized extensively in recent years, particularly in iridium catalysis. Much work has been done in studying monometallic complexes, and our goal is to extend this to homobimetallic Ir complexes. As we prepare these complexes, we will examine the electronic structure of the metal centers.
