Pocket Press is a project that seeks to establish an archival collection of zines on the campus of Southern Utah University. A zine is a self-published, DIY magazine that is often created by marginalized groups and members of counterculture movements. The project addresses the need for spaces open to free speech and creative expression, as well as a place for creative students to get inspiration. In preparation for the collection to be established, zines were collected from students, community members, and distributors around the world. Zines purchases were done intentionally, with the purpose of broadening the range of voices and perspectives represented within the collection. The collection serves as a permanent resource that encourages creativity, self-expression, and community connection. It provides a dedicated space for students to explore, submit their own work, and create their own zines. This project has created a long-lasting archival resource that will be open to all students, fostering community and encouraging creative exploration. By providing both inspirational and physical resources, Pocket Press aims to build a welcoming culture where ideas can be shared freely and creatively.
