As regulatory pressure to reduce carbon emissions has increased and advances in battery technology continues, medium and heavy-duty electric vehicles (MD/HD EVs) are emerging as a key solution to decarbonize the commercial transportation sector. But adoption of this technology has slowed due to unknows such as the long-term profitability of these vehicles and the lack of a market for used MD/HD EVs. This project we are working to address these gaps in current market understanding, by accurately estimating current costs of adopting electric heavy weight fleets and the changes need to happen to incentivize companies to invest in this option. We will provide insights into market dynamics and forecast future demand for top industry leaders. This project will support stakeholders as they navigate the emerging MD/HD EV market. This project is an initial market analysis of MD/HD EVs, focusing on Net Present Value, Projected Salvage Value and Maintenance Costs. By providing this insight to companies about the current market conditions actions can be taken to address gaps that may be preventing the full adoption of MD/HD EVs due to current market conditions.
