Medication non-adherence is a growing public health issue, especially among older adults, who often rely on prescription medications to manage chronic health conditions. According to the CDC seven out of ten Americans take prescription medications. However, only half follow their medication regimen. When individuals forget to take their medication as prescribed, it can result in severe health complications, hospitalizations, and even death. This challenge is particularly evident in the aging population where forgetfulness, cognitive decline, and complex medication regimens can worsen the issue. Individuals not taking their medications not only compromises their individual health but also places a significant burden on the healthcare system, leading to increased costs and resource strain. To address this issue, we developed FinishRx, a comprehensive medication management solution that combines an easy-to-use mobile application with a cutting-edge smart pillbox. FinishRx offers an array of features specifically designed to promote medication adherence and improve patient outcomes. The mobile app delivers personalized reminders, timely alerts, and daily tracking options, making it easier for users and caregivers to stay on top of medication schedules. The mobile application and the smart pillbox combined help remind individuals of their medication regimens. The smart pillbox, equipped with sensors, monitors pill removal and alerts individuals and family members of missed doses via the mobile app. This integrated approach empowers individuals to take control of their medication regimen and promotes better health outcomes. FinishRx combined with the smart pillbox meets the evolving needs of individuals and contributes to better patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
