Peteetneet School was designed by Richard C. Watkins and has long been a part of the History of Payson Utah since its erection in 1901. Peteetneet School served as an academy and elementary school from 1901-1987 when it was abandoned due to the cost of upkeep. Due to the efforts of concerned citizens, Peteetneet School underwent a major restoration starting in 1989 to serve as a museum and civic center for the people of Payson, Utah. The 1959 cafeteria addition was restored to serve as a multi-purpose reception center while the original Peteetneet School was restored to serve as the museum and additional space for the civic center. During the restoration process the school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. Since then, there have been additions made to the grounds surrounding the school and a glass elevator addition to the school in 2008. Peteetneet has now served the citizens of Payson in its new role of museum and civic center for more than 3 decades. The purpose of this creative project is to study the Victorian and Romanesque Revival architecture of the original school. This helped to make the original building an architectural success and was able to bring together a community to fight for its preservation and restoration. This project is in the form of a watercolor analytique rendu. As such, there are multiple enlarged portions of the west façade displayed to highlight unique elements of the school’s beauty. A full elevation of the west façade at a smaller scale is on display to show the overall compositional beauty of the Victorian and Romanesque Revival architecture.
