Can we, Benjamin Varnell and Madison Rosser, design a classical hotel in Venice, Italy that speaks a similar language to the native venetian architect, Vincenzo Scamozzi? To fulfill this goal we studied three of Scamozzi's most influencial designs in Italy, analyzing them for rhythm, proportion, geometry, and the use of his classical ornament. The buildings we decided to study are named Ca Vendramin Calergi, Palazzo Nuovo, and the Palazzo Contarnini. As future architects we are responsible for influencing the environment and people around our designs. We seek to design this project to fit in with the existing context, and not intrude upon the history and culture existing around our building site. As one of the most fragile cities in the world, Venice has been kept alive through classical architecture, as well as with it's traditional values throughout. Scamozzi has made a strong contribution towards this particular beauty, and has woven these architectural truths within the fabric of Venice. Our proposal for this project will reflect the data we have uncovered, allowing future architects to build upon this foundation.
