Irritation and disturbance are examples of noise annoyance. Noise can have different negative effects on people and can dramatically affect people’s mental and physical health. Universities are one of the types of land uses that is recommended to be located in silent zones. However, many of them are located in densely populated areas and are subjected to excessive levels of noise. As part of this study, noise levels were measured within and around a major university in the state, Utah Valley University. The measurements were conducted during different university hours. The findings revealed that noise levels are positively correlated with the traffic volume in the areas surrounding the university, implying that areas with higher traffic volumes have higher noise levels.
