Throughout architectural history many architects have recorded rules on how to properly draw and proportion the classical orders. In order to better understand and appreciate the classical tradition and history of architecture this study examines one of the ancient treatises, studying and the rules and proportioning system outlined therein. This creative project shows the rule and proportions of the five classical orders (Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Composite) according to the rules outlined by Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola in THE AMERICAN VIGNOLA by William Ware. This project is in the form of a watercolor analytique rendu displaying a parallel of the orders. Displayed are the five classical orders drawn according to the rules and proportions of Vignola. The Tuscan, Doric Ionic, Corinthian and composite orders are each displayed at the same height with only the column diameter changing in size. Each order displays the ratio and proportions of the order. Shades and shadows have been incorporated showing the importance and visual effects that classical moldings and projections have on each of the five orders.
