My presentation is a performance of a tap piece which is danced to one of the iconic songs "42nd Street" from 42nd Streetthe musical. In this tap dance number, rhythm is explored through complex footwork, singing, syncopation and even call and response. The form, dynamics, and tempo of the music are integral to the piece, as they allow the dance to be focused on musicality. The goal of this work is to show how tap is music first before it can exist in any other art form.
