The Student Involvement and Leadership (STIL) Office at Southern Utah University (SUU) consistently uses chalk art around campus to advertise various activities happening at the university. To help them become more efficient the Robotic Sidewalk Art Team(R-SWAT) was tasked with creating a device that would automate the process of written chalk advertising. The project aim is to create a device that can complete alegiblewritten sentence as fast or faster than an average human covering a minimum area of a 3.5’ square. A small prototype of the device will be constructed to better understand the integration of programming with the mechanical and electrical properties of a mobile CNC machine. This will allow for further adaptation for an upscaled device to fit the project requirements. Upon completion, the automated chalk advertising machine will lessen the workload of the STIL office, draw more attention to and improve the quality of chalk advertisements at SUU.
