CRISPR became the paragon of genetic innovation in 2012, and nearly 10 years later, students are unable to engage in hands-on learning with this tool. This project reports on the development of an educational kit that would provide a visual demonstration of the effects of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing system. The proposed system will utilize CRISPR-Cas9 plasmids to perform a gene knockout in fluorescent bacteria. The goal of this project will be to engage students in hands-on science. The engagement of students will spark an interest in gene editing in future researchers, as well as give them experience with advanced technology.
